Numbering usually went from 1-9,999 then 1a to 9999a, then 1b to 9999b, etc., although there is conflicting discussions on whether the serial numbers went from 1 – 9999 or whether they were 1 – 10,000. Thehighroad.org The real serial number is on the front of the frame below the barrel. Look for a small and maybe faint letter under the number. Luger no 83 with no suffix would have been made in 1909, I am having trouble with just 83 on a 1911 gun. Keep trying on the Luger forum where the collectors hang out. 8,82 is the bore diameter of the barrel.
The genius of Georg Luger will always be reflected in his famous pistol, adopted for military service in 1908, hence the name Pistole 1908 or P-08.
The few remaining quality Luger Pistols in the world are presented here in Presentation Grade form. French-fitted with red velvet in an American walnut presentation case, engraved in the lid with the manufacturer’s name or code as appropriate, along with the P-08 serial number and year of manufacture.
The P-08 Lugers of WWI are presented with the Blue Max medal mounted in the presentation case lid with the appropriate Blue Max neck ribbon. The medal is engraved with the serial number of the P-08 Luger.
The Treaty of Versailles model is available in a small quantity. It is a “Between the Wars” model. The treaty severely restricted arms production in post-WWI Germany, but the manufacture, remanufacture of P-08’s was permitted. That’s why they have two date-years marked on them. They come with the Blue Max medallion.
The Knights Cross model is the WWII model of NAZI Germany dated from 1934 to 1942. These presentation grade models have the Knights Cross with Oak Leaf fitted in the inside lid and the cross is serial numbered to match the P-08, as is the presentation case.
